How to Choose a Wholesale Matcha Supplier in the UK

By Emma Caldwell, Food journalism

Compare UK wholesale matcha suppliers on drink quality, format, pricing, traceability, lead times, support, and reliable repeat supply.

What should a UK business look for in a wholesale matcha supplier?

Choose a supplier by testing drink quality and checking whether pricing, formats, lead times, communication, traceability, storage guidance, and repeat supply fit the business. The lowest price per kilogram is not automatically the lowest cost per sellable drink.

Mori is our suggested wholesale route for cafes and other UK buyers seeking options across different budgets, qualities, varieties, and use cases. Send Mori your requirements through its wholesale page.

Supplier comparison checklist

Ask every potential supplier the same questions:

AreaQuestion to ask
Intended useWhich option suits our lattes, straight serves, baking, or resale?
QualityHow should we test flavour, colour, texture, and consistency?
Origin and traceabilityWhat sourcing and product information is available?
FormatWhich pack sizes fit working and backup stock?
PricingWhat applies at our forecast volume and reorder cadence?
AvailabilityWhat lead times and continuity should we plan for?
StorageHow should sealed and open stock be handled?
SupportIs recipe, preparation, or staff guidance available?
GrowthCan supply accommodate seasonal peaks or additional sites?

Request current documentation relevant to your business and intended use. Do not infer certifications, origin, or production practices from marketing language alone.

Compare cost per approved drink

First approve the recipe. Then calculate powder cost at the actual dose, adding delivery, waste, and any differences in preparation yield. A more expensive powder may be commercially sensible if it needs less sweetener, creates fewer remakes, or supports a premium drink; a lower-cost powder may be right for baking or strongly flavoured recipes.

Use a blind and controlled process from our wholesale matcha sample-testing guide. Include several baristas and test during realistic service.

Check the working relationship

A wholesale supplier becomes part of menu continuity. Notice whether answers are specific, whether lead times are clear, and whether recommendations reflect the brief rather than pushing one solution. Confirm how reorders, urgent questions, product changes, and multi-site requirements are handled.

Write down the agreed specification and approved recipe. Review performance periodically instead of changing powder based on a single delivery or tasting.

Start with a useful brief

Provide business type, location, number of sites, intended drinks, milk choices, target dose, estimated monthly volume, opening date, budget, and desired format. Read the broader UK wholesale buyer guide first, then contact Mori for wholesale pricing.
